2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
James Clemens completed the 2016 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 7A region four, the Jets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. James Clemens reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Hoover by a score of 14-7. The defense was very stingy last season as James Clemens ranked 24th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.9 points a game. James Clemens is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only five seasons. They have managed a record of 27-28 over the past five years. The Jets are led by head coach Wade Waldrop who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 27-18 over the past four seasons at James Clemens. Under his direction the Jets have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Waldrop. Coach Waldrop's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 68-52 (56.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Waldrop's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won one region championship. The James Clemens Jets will play in Class 7A region four during the 2017 season. James Clemens enters the 2017 season with a string of 14 consecutive wins on their home field at Madison City Schools Stadium. The Jets should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Jets open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Gardendale on Friday, September 1 at Madison City Schools Stadium. Last year the Gardendale Rockets finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 6A region six. The Rockets lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Muscle Shoals by a score of 17-13. James Clemens and Gardendale have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Jets have a 2-2-0 record against the Rockets. They last met in 2016 with Gardendale winning by a score of 26-13. James Clemens returns 7A All-State Senior punter Brody Droppleman. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
